Nursing Since 1884
On Saturday 13th June, members of the North/West Chapter of the Fellowship of First Fleeters stepped back in time when they visited the Tamworth Base Hospital’s Museum. The group was met at the front doors of the 1884 building by former Assistant Director of Nursing, Sister Susan Turner, who was dressed in a period nurses outfit, and with the help of another Nursing Sister, Sister Patsy Chilton, were shown through the collection of photo’s of Nurses, Doctors, Board Members and equipment once used in the Hospital’s past. These two Ladies head up a group of very dedicated people who have put together over 600 exhibits, with lots more not on display because of the lack of space. Because of their persistence we now have one of the best collection of Hospital memorabilia, that is well worth taking a look at.
If you step through the doors of the 1884 Building you will be stepping into our Hospital’s history, the past that tells of the dedication of the Nurses and Doctors in the Tamworth District over the past 125 years.
The North/ West Chapter of the Fellowship of First Fleeters, wish to thank Sister Susan Turner and Sister Patsy Chilton for their time and dedication to detail and presentation of this collection.
